About the event

Volunteer Herbal Balm-Making Day for Shawna’s Outreach

By the Ontario Herbalists Association in Collaboration with Sugar Bones Farm

The Ontario Herbalists Association (OHA) is pleased to invite you to a hands-on volunteer event hosted at Sugar Bones Farm, focused on community care through herbal medicine.

Participants will come together to create natural, handcrafted balms that will be donated to Shawna’s Outreach, an organization supporting people experiencing homelessness in Ottawa. These balms will be distributed directly to individuals in need as a practical and compassionate offering.

This event will include:

  • An introduction to natural balm-making and the herbal ingredients used

  • Instruction on the balm-making process and its practical applications

  • A collaborative group session where volunteers will make the balms together

  • Production of balms specifically intended for outreach

No prior herbal experience is required. This event is open to anyone interested in herbalism, community service, and hands-on learning in a welcoming and supportive environment. All balms will be made using natural ingredients, with guidance provided throughout the day.

Please note: due to limited space, advance registration is required and we can only accommodate 10 volunteers for this project.

This is an opportunity to learn practical herbal skills, connect with the herbal community, and contribute meaningfully to local outreach efforts—all in the beautiful rural setting of Sugar Bones Farm in North Gower Ontario.

Community, education, and care—working together through herbal medicine.

*In the event of severe weather we will move the event to the following day January 4th 2025*
